During 1966, Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries. At that time, he bought the manufacturing rights to a material lift which operated on compressed air. The name Genie came from the "magic in the bottle" that was used to raise and lower the hoist. This device really impressed customers and therefore, the name was born.
Genie has moved into numerous new markets, as the demand for work platforms and lifts grew. Over time, as the requirements for new equipment to meet many applications grew, the company made itself known in numerous new markets. Like for instance, Genie went into production with light towers, man-lifts, articulated booms, stick booms and telehandlers.
Because of the economic recession in the start of the 2000s, Genie decided to obtain a partner who held the same values. They partnered up together with Terex Corporation. This company has a history acquiring machine manufacturers throughout the globe who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold in 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
Due to the Genie name and its solid reputation within the workplace, it was decided to maintain the Genie brand as part of the Terex Aerial Work Platforms. This was just decided after the first few years following the sale. Therefore, all Genie machinery continue to be marketed under the Genie brand name.
Genie takes pride in listening to their customers. The company is devoted to continually improving quality and efficiency and is also dedicated to minimizing waste. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company focuses on providing exceptional support. These are the very work disciplines which have made Genie a trusted brand over the past decades and continue to keep their reputation for quality and top-of-the-line machines.
Genie's DC and Bi-Energy machines are emission-free, quiet equipment capable of working in delicate work environments. Where the equipment must be driven significant distances, like for example within industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the advantages of a 48V DC machine together with the power of a diesel-powered generator.
As opposed to any of the various types of aerial platforms, telescopic booms offer more horizontal reach overall. These equipment are great for limited access areas in construction and other industrial environments. The Genie Telescopic S booms have been designed to offer utmost productivity. These machinery deliver the drive speed and supreme traction you need to be able to travel around the job area and work site.
