History
During 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's original name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group bought a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machines. During 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
