Reach Truck
In order to keep storage areas orderly and to stock up supplies and pallets of goods, a reach truck can be used. The reach truck comes in several types: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The most basic kind is the stand-up. The truck forks slide under the pallet and move it to the appropriate storage location. The forks slide the pallet into position. This type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet in depth.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, that is similar to the stand-up, is commonly utilized. This model has telescopic forks intended to place the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet needs to go into the same shelving section.
The added advantage of straddle reaches is that they can both slide beneath the pallet and grasp the sides as well. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This model is best in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Within nearly all warehouses, there are normally more than one type of reach truck. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies utilize various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to utilize and can increase productivity while maximizing available storage space.
