Forklift Components in More Detail
There are many parts which make up a lift truck. The lift truck's major parts include the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Also, a forklift consists of a range of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are of equal importance as they work together to make the machine's operation possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe a few of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machinery operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would hurt the operator or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and enables the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and other kinds of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are many kinds of attachments which could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various attachments are handy for moving various types of loads.
