Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on a straight, extendable arm that is located on a rotating turntable. Normally, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for tasks which require reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for instance, employees can perform exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts rather than having the extra work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift is only designed to hold one individual. These buckets are better suited to specific jobs like electrical repair, as opposed to window washing or general maintenance. These lifts are offered with both outdoor and indoor tires and come in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces under the work platform. These braces squeeze together to be able to push the platform straight up. As these types of units should be directly positioned below the work site, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, on the other hand, offer larger platforms that allow the operator controlling the lift to access a larger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these kinds of equipment, because they must sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are great for being used for window installation or cladding, as they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a good alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle often used to lift employees for various tasks done at heights. Typically, these kinds of trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and controls the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand as well as an actuator arm for raising the boom and a winch for lifting.
Boom trucks take employees to heights which would normally be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy supplies or equipment from one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of equipment excel at different tasks and are suitable for certain applications and finishing particular tasks.
