Georgia is state situated within the southeastern United States. Referred to as the "Peach State," the state of Georgia was amongst the original Thirteen Colonies, named in tribute to Great Britain's King George II. With a population of roughly 9,600,000, Georgia is the 9th most densely inhabited state and one of the fastest growing in the nation. From the years 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked amongst America's 100 fastest-growing. The capital city is Atlanta, which is also the most heavily populated city within the state of Georgia.

The northern part of Georgia State is dominated by the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are part of the Appalachian Mountains system. In the southern parts of the state are the continental coastal plains. The state of Florida lies towards the south. South Carolina State and the Atlantic Ocean lie towards the east, and the state of Alabama towards the west. The states of North Carolina and Tennessee lie towards the north.
Food production is vital to Georgia's economy. The region around Albany within southwest Georgia is a center of pecan production, making the state the number one producer of pecans within the world. In northeast Georgia, Gainesville is a center of poultry production. Various state products comprise peanuts, soybeans, peaches, corn, rye, cattle, hogs, dairy products, turfgrass, vegetables and tobacco.
The state has a really diverse industrial base. The timber and mineral trade have several operations here. In Decatur County, the town of Attapulgus produces a clay material called palygorskite. It is better known as attapulgite, and provides medical, industrial and cosmetic uses. Other industries include textiles and apparel, transportation equipment, electric equipment, paper products, chemical products, food processing and cigarettes. Tourism is also strong within Georgia State.

Atlanta has a large population base and is very close to major transportation routes. Atlanta City is a leading center of industry, transportation, tourism, communications and government, not just within Georgia State but within the southeastern United States.
